Cleaning Hacks

Today I am sharing with you some of my favorite cleaning hacks and cleaning solution recipes. As Larkspur continues to grow, my hope is to use this platform to encourage people to take steps to living a happier and healthier life. Drop your favorite hacks in the comments section so we can all learn from each other.

Natural Multipurpose Spray

Make your own multipurpose spray with just a few simple ingredients you probably already have laying around the house. Not only is this solution non-toxic, but it also helps with eliminating waste.

Heres what you'll need :

  • 1-3 Citrus Fruit Peels (grapefruit, lemon, or orange)

  • White Vinegar

  • Water

  • Thieves (optional)

  • Cheese cloth or fine strainer

  • Quart sized mason jar with lid

  • Makes 3, 8oz. Spray Bottles

After you've accumulated your citrus peels, stuff them into a mason jar and pour vinegar over the top. Let sit for about a week, shaking the mason jar everyday. Next, go ahead and strain the concentrate into a separate container. I like to use a larger strainer for the peels and a cheese cloth for the pulp. Now you are ready to fill up your spray bottles. Your spray bottle should consist of 1 part solution to 1 part water. If you already use YL Thieves, go ahead and put a capful into the solution. With both the citric acid and vinegar combined, you now have the perfect solution for cleaning showers, kitchen surfaces, mirrors and more. This solution kills harmful bacterias such as salmonella but is also completely safe to use around your family and pets.

Baking Soda Hack

This is by far the simplest and most convenient hack. Take a canister that has a lid and fill it with baking soda. Keep this container next to your shower along with your new multipurpose spray and a scrub brush.

Once a week, sprinkle some baking soda around the shower and spray your solution on top. Allow the mixture to foam and then scrub and rinse clean. This will prevent your shower or sink from discoloration or mildew growth. The best part about this is that it only take a couple extra minutes toward the end of your shower and is completely safe to touch.

Unfortunately I can't find a link to these jars but I did get this one in the cheap section at Target.

Turn Down For What

Part of my morning routine is to turn down my sheets as soon as I get up. I like to freshen them up with this essential oil mist but you can easily make your own, which I'll share how to make, in a second. If you are curious why I do this, then here are just a couple things to think about. As we sleep, our body heat and sometimes sweat get trapped in between the sheets. Dust mites thrive in this environment but when you turn down the sheets, the bed is able to air out properly and fight those dust mites. Keep your sheets clean and smelling good with this linen spray recipe.

  • 1 tbsp Vodka or witch hazel

  • 3/4 cup Distilled Water

  • Essential Oil (lavender, eucalyptus eat.)

  • 8oz. Glass Spray bottle

Combine 1oz vodka and 30 drops of essential oil scent, mix well. Then add water. Mix again and then your new linen spray is ready to use.

Well that's it for now friends! Everyday I am learning more and I can't wait to share again. Please let me know how these hacks work for you and what you do to keep a healthy home. Let's use this platform to help each other out.
